Since the American-led invasion of Iraq in March of 2003, nearly 25 000 Iraqi civilians have been killed. This accounts for one out every 1000 Iraqis.

Before March 2003, a monthly average of 14 Iraqis died due to criminal violence. Today, that average is nearly 400.
